Hampton Court Palace Flower Show 2010 – A Lost Loved Garden

The purpose of the garden was to demonstrate the importance of conservation and preservation of buildings and gardens for future generations. Inspiration for the garden came from photographs of neglected gardens and the title ‘A Lost Loved Garden’ reflects the theme of preservation.

The Inspiration For A Lost Loved Garden

The ethics of re-using and re-cycling materials has been promoted by Tiger Enterprises. This company has joined us in creating the garden. The derelect house acts as a backdrop for a garden which until recently was still cared for by perhaps an elderly neighbour. Ornamentals have begun to self-seed and the garden is loosing its former glory as nature begins to creep in. All the garden structures are from a re-claimed source and the designer grows most of the plants.

The uninhabited building is constructed from re-claimed bricks and roof tiles. The path is made up from re-claimed York stone pieces. Consideration has been give to the rustic appearance and texture of the hard materials to enhance the semi-neglected look of the garden. Similarly the textures and colours of of the wrought iron fences, wood and wire fencing and abandoned items; aim to enhance the various greens of the foliage and the pastel shades of the pink, white and blue flowers. The garden structures stand as if the garden has grown up around them.
