BBC Gardeners World 2009 – Something In The Air Garden
The Something In The Air garden is designed to uphold our values and therefore our planting has a wild and free intention. The garden has separate areas which combine and balance each other.
To the back of the garden, structure and height is provided by rambling roses and willow. These structural plants are planted on a raised bed with hydrangea, green sedum and yellow oxalis. The raised beds are planted at either side of a garden gate.
A brick pathway circles around the front of the garden with wild flower grass and a crumbling brick wall to the left. On the right hand side of the garden is a brick seating area with a wrought iron table and café style chairs. The seating area is planted with lavender and thyme.
To the front of the seating area, a mixture of scented pelargoniums, with varieties of lychniss will be planted. Scents include mint, rose, cedar, cinnamon and lemon. Similarly, on the left hand side of the garden, a wrought iron table will stand with antique pots planted with scented pelargoniums and campanula. Roman chamomile will be placed on the top of the garden tables.
To the very front of the garden, a 1960s wicker chair will be placed. Around the chair will be planted various varieties of lavender. All the materials used for the garden are from a reclaimed source. The fencing is reclaimed roofing material which is green and looks like corrugated metal. All the bricks, wrought iron tables, chairs and urns are all from a reclaimed source from the 1960s and before.
