Find Out why Linda And Ralph Do What They Do

Linda and Ralph Gardening are a small and growing nursery. We aim to grow plants for sale and for use in our garden designs.  Our aim is to add to and support small nurseries which specialise in specific varieties of plants.

The Linda and Ralph garden is based on our values about gardening.  We feel plants and flowers need to have the freedom to grow and show their beauty and creativity naturally.  This means that pruning should only be required to strengthen the plant.  Our organic ethos means that no insecticides or pesticides are used which may do damage to plants, the environment and friendly insects and wildlife.

Tiger Enterprises

Tiger Enterprises has sponsored the garden and supplied all the hard materials.  This is a reclamation company, based in Brighton. It salvages building materials such as bricks, tiles, windows, doors, floorboards and glass and resells it for renovation work.  This company has saved tonnes of CO2 by preventing building materials going to landfill.  The ethos of Tiger Enterprises is similar to the environmental considerations and organic nature of our garden.

Thunderclap Newman

The title and theme of the garden is based on the 1969 song by Thunderclap Newman “Something in the Air”.  The title aims to capture the fragrant aspects of the garden and its wild and free interpretation which we feel is akin to the 1960s culture of love and peace and wild and free.  The song “Something in the Air” was produced by Pete Townsend, the Who’s guitarist who formulated the group Thunderclap Newman.  Andy ‘Thunderclap’ Newman was a friend of Pete Townsend from Art College.  The song was a hit UK  No. 1 single for 3 weeks in July 1969.  It has since been used for many films and commercials.  The song captured post flower power rebellion.

Baileys Topsoil for Schools

Bailey’s of Norfolk has supplied the topsoil for this garden free of charge.  This company has supported schools by supplying topsoil to promote gardening projects and soil analysis for children.  It has encouraged children to learn about the importance of topsoil, helped teachers and parents plan their school gardens and, like Gardener’s World Live, has supported shows and exhibitors.
